The University of North Carolina at Pembroke invites applications for a tenure-track position in Asian History, broadly defined, at the rank of Assistant Professor. In addition to teaching specialized courses in his or her area of expertise, the successful candidate will contribute to the General Education survey load in the department by offering introductory courses in World Civilizations (prior to and since 1500). The successful candidate will periodically teach a historical methods course. Of particular interest to us are candidates who can complement our department by teaching in one or more of the following areas: the histories of gender and sexuality, indigenous peoples and colonialism, the Indian Ocean world, and transnationalism.

UNC Pembroke, part of the University of North Carolina system, is among the most diverse universities in the South and has a student population of 6500 in various graduate, undergraduate, and professional programs. Originally founded in 1887 to educate Native Americans, UNC Pembroke has grown recently and today is one of the most ethnically and racially diverse universities in the eastern United States. Southeastern North Carolina offers close proximity to major cities and nearby beaches, and an affordable cost of living. Minimum Training and Experience Requirements: Applicants must have earned the Ph.D. in History by August 2018.

Management Preferences: Experience in the teaching of university-college-level teaching.
