Applications are invited for the position of Associate Professor/Senior Lecturer in Japanese. This is a permanent full time position and expected to commence in February 2017.
The Associate Professor/Senior Lecturer in Japanese will provide strategic academic leadership, particularly in terms of developing the research profile of the Japanese Programme and fostering a productive and collegial environment.
The successful applicant’s areas of research specialisation and teaching competence are open, but must complement and reinforce the existing strengths of the Japanese Programme and the School of Languages and Cultures, as well as enhancing the broader research strategies of the University. Possible areas of interest might include but are not limited to translation studies, literature, popular culture, applied linguistics and sociolinguistics, film studies, media studies or visual culture.
The successful applicant will have a high quality research record consistent with the research strategy of the School and of the University and enhance the capacity to supervise MA and PhD theses in the Japanese Programme.
The successful applicant will be also involved in administering and teaching Japanese language and culture courses at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels and will have native or near-native Japanese and English language ability. Academic staff in the School are normally expected to teach an average of 7-8 hours per week.
