The Assistant Director/Coordinator of International Services is a part of the Center for Global Study & Engagement (CGSE) leadership team and works closely with faculty and administrative offices on campus to develop, provide and sustain quality services and programming for incoming international students and scholars. The current menu of program responsibilities includes international exchange, matriculated student, visiting scholar programs, summer international visitor programs, and diversity programming.

Essential functions include:

  • F and J visa documentation issuance and pre-arrival advising
  • SEVIS and other federally required reporting to Departments of State and Homeland Security
  • Maintain communication with various campus offices regarding international students and scholars, including: Admissions, Campus Life, Academic Advising, Dean of Students, Wellness Center, Dean of Diversity and Student Development, Human Resources, Financial Operations, , and various other administrative offices and academic departments
  • Admission and coordination of exchange students and upholding agreements with partner institutions
  • Visiting scholars, short-term scholars, visiting international speakers, etc: department requests and placement, visa documentation, orientation, housing, transportation
  • Ongoing advising to international students and scholars regarding cultural adjustment, F and J regulations, Social Security and state ID/drivers license applications, and income tax reporting
  • Cultural programming for international students and visitors (including semester field trips, roundtable discussions, and social events)
  • Administer agreements with partner agencies: IIE, CIEE
  • Supervise the program associate for international services and student workers; may be tasked with supervising staff of summer programs (as applicable) including: senior facilitators, summer program budget worker, and summer office workers
  • Strategic planning for International Services
  • New international student orientation
  • Arrange Winter Break housing and summer storage for international students
  • Develop and administer summer programs for visiting international students

Marginal Functions:

  • Coordinating student/scholar transportation to campus
  • Administration of Department of State summer programs if awarded; past examples include: South Asian Student Leaders Institute, Middle East Partnership Initiative Institute, including involvement in development of program proposals, evaluation and final reporting as well as budgetary monitoring and reporting
  • Submit grant renewal annually for Fulbright FLTA student program
  • Attend general CGSE events as needed to assist with event management and dissemination of information
  • Create/Update website content
  • Admissions, orientation, and advising for part-time students associated with US Army War College

Preferred Qualifications:

  • B.S/ B.A. required, Master’s preferred
  • At least two years of experience in an university-level international office
  • Knowledge of F and J visa requirements and federal regulations
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Sungard Banner
  • Excellent organizational skills, ability to think creatively, sensitivity to diverse populations, ability to understand and execute strategic thinking and planning, understanding of institutional priorities and goals
