The UK Trade & Investment Department of the British Embassy in Tokyo has a vacancy for a Deputy Inward Investment Officer, to help promote investment from the Japanese ICT Sector (electronics, communications, IT, software, mobile contents, games etc) into the UK.

The jobholder will work in our busy and successful inward investment team, building the case for specific Japanese companies to invest in the UK’s vibrant economy, and supporting and maintaining relationships with Japanese companies with existing investments in the UK. The job involves considerable contact with Japanese industry at senior levels, as well as liaison with UK stakeholders.

The Job

Main duties for this position will include:

Managing and improving the relationships with existing investors, and potential investors
Support for case handling e.g. attending meetings, report writing, enquiry facilitation, event planning & logistics
Conducting research work on relevant sectors
Supporting UKTI Japan events and visits
Providing day-to-day administrative support for the team including maintaining and developing a database of contacts, filing and replying to enquiries
Carrying out some translation work

Your Profile

Native-level or JLPT Level 1 Japanese to a high standard, with the ability to communicate orally and in writing in appropriate business Japanese
Fluency in spoken and written English
Strong IT skills, particularly Microsoft Office in English and Japanese
Experience of working within Japanese/International business culture and a basic understanding of inward investment business a strong advantage
Experience or knowledge of the ICT sector and industry (e.g. electronics, communications, IT, software, mobile contents, games) an advantage, but not compulsory
Flexibility and ability to work as part of a team
Strong organisational skills, ability to prioritise and to work with limited supervision
Familiarity with the UK would be advantageous, but is not essential
