Senior Lecturer/Lecturer in Japanese Language in the School of Modern Languages and Cultures (Ref.: 201801608)

Applications are invited for appointment as Senior Lecturer/Lecturer in Japanese Language in the School of Modern Languages and Cultures, to commence on September 1, 2019 or as soon as possible thereafter, on a three-year fixed-term basis, with the possibility of renewal.

For Senior Lecturer, applicants should possess a Master’s and/or Ph.D. degree relevant to teaching Japanese language, with at least 10 years of full-time teaching experience at tertiary level.  Applicants should demonstrate proven ability to take a leadership role in curriculum development and programme management; proven academic administrative experience in planning, organizing and evaluating language courses; and proven ability to liaise with other institutions offering similar courses within and outside Hong Kong for curriculum development and teaching innovation.  The appointee will be expected to participate in Teaching Development Grant projects and/or projects related to development/scholarship in curriculum and pedagogy, and/or create and manage knowledge exchange opportunities.

For Lecturer, applicants should possess a Master’s degree with at least 5 years of teaching experience or equivalent and native fluency at the tertiary level.  They should have the ability to take on coordinating role at course level, to design new courses, to create original teaching materials and to mentor junior staff in the programme. The appointee will be expected to participate in committees at School and Faculty level and/or to liaise with external bodies and organizations for the benefit of the programme. He/She should also be able and willing to participate in knowledge exchange and demonstrate scholarship in language teaching or related fields.

A globally competitive remuneration package commensurate with the appointee’s qualifications and experience will be offered, as well as annual leave and medical benefits. At current rates, salaries tax does not exceed 15% of gross income. The appointment will attract a contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totalling up to 15% of basic salary.  Housing benefits will be provided as applicable for Senior Lecturer appointment.
