Funding: JAHF-Clark Center Graduate Travel Grant

*Travel grant for grad student research in public or private collections of Japanese art

*Amount: $500

*Application deadline: December 31, 2016

The Japan Art History Forum (JAHF) and the past participants in the curatorial internship program of the former Clark Center for Japanese Art and Culture in Hanford, California, invite applications to the annual graduate travel grant. This grant program, administered through JAHF, was established upon the closing of the Clark Center in commemoration of its internship program, which offered a rare opportunity for young scholars in the field to gain valuable hands-on experience handling and caring for artworks, planning exhibitions, and working with the public.

The JAHF Clark Center Graduate Travel Grant is an annual grant of $500 for a graduate student of Japanese art wishing to visit a public or private collection of Japanese art for the purpose of in-person, hands-on research. The grant will be administered through JAHF and we are thankful to the board for working with us to make this possible.

Applications for the first round of the grant will be accepted through December 31, 2016, and decisions announced by February 15, 2017. Graduate students in any field of study conducting research benefiting from direct access to works of Japanese art are welcome to apply.

The application form can be accessed here.

Seed money for this fund has been donated by the past interns of the Clark Center, and additional contributions to the fund are welcome. Contributions to the fund can be made via PayPal on the JAHF website and any inquiries may be directed to jahf.clarkgrant@gmail.com
