Job Summary
The Study Abroad Advisor (SAA)position is based in the Study Abroad and Exchange Programs (SAEP) section of the Global Services and Initiatives (GSI) area. Both areas are located under the Office of International Studies and Programs (OISP).

The SAA manages various study abroad programs assigned by the Assistant Director of GSI/SAEP. Provides advice and information to students, parents and others interested in study abroad; assists in promoting programs across campus; coordinates application processes and post acceptance services to students. Works with staff and faculty to provide high-quality experience for students abroad. This position supports CWU faculty-led programs under the guidelines of the Spheres of Distinction and helps in generating revenue for these programs by marketing and producing promotional materials for International Education Week and Study Abroad Fair.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree OR any combination of education and experience which clearly demonstrates the ability to perform the essential functions of the job
  • Experience as an Advisor
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Significant experience studying, working and/or living abroad
  • Experience using Word, Excel, e-mail, desktop publishing and/or similar software applications to prepare spreadsheets, marketing material, etc.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and to establish excellent working relationships with CWU personnel
  • Excellent organizational skills: planning; working on several projects simultaneously; prioritizing and completing tasks expeditiously

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in International Studies, Higher Education/Student Affairs Administration or related field
  • Two years advising abroad and program coordination
  • Experience in marketing, public relations, or advertising
  • Experience working on faculty-led programs
  • Proficiency in at least one foreign language
  • Experience working with faculty

Job Duties
Student Advising related to Faculty-led Programs (FLP):

  • Advise students interested in available faculty-led study programs, details of the programs and application processes, and CWU regulations applicable to study abroad
  • Coordinate with faculty leaders and academic departments on the application, selection, and pre-departure orientation processes for FLPs
  • Advise faculty leaders and academic departments on program budgets
  • Assist faculty leaders and academic departments with the development and distribution of program marketing materials
  • Maintain and track FLP participant records
  • Collaborate with students, faculty leaders and academic departments on program evaluations

International Internships:

  • Identify and collaborate with third party providers
  • Work with Student Success/Career Services and the academic departments on a) optimizing internship opportunities, and b) the processing of Learning Agreements and student financial information
  • Provide students with pre-departure orientation information
  • Collaborate with students, faculty leaders, academic departments, and Career Services on program evaluations

Study Abroad and Exchange Programs:

  • Advise students interested in available long term study abroad and exchange programs
  • Collaborate with SAEP staff on providing students with pre-departure orientation
  • Work with the Assistant Director of GSI/SAEP and SAEP staff to develop and implement a marketing plan for study abroad to promote programs, generate revenue and develop budgets
  • Develop marketing materials for study abroad/exchange programs available to CWU and non-CWU students in collaboration with SAEP staff
  • Collaborate with GSI/SAEP staff to regularly update web content and SAEP publications

Campus and Community Activities:

  • Coordinate campus and community intercultural activities and events in cooperation with OISP and GSI/SAEP staff and various CWU departments
  • Coordinate new student orientation events and info sessions with OISP and GSI/SAEP staff and various CWU departments
