Job Opening: Asian History, Hiram College, Asst prof

Institution:   Hiram College, History
Location:   Ohio, United States
Position:   Assistant Professor, Asian History

Hiram College seeks to hire into a tenure-track position a specialist in Asian History who is equipped to teach courses broadly across the Asian world.  The candidate should be able to teach several regional courses (e.g.China, India, Japan, Pacific Rim, etc.) as well as our two-course World History survey.  Ultimately, however, our emphasis is on creativity more than coverage.  We seek someone who can stage original courses that are thematically linked to their own research or pedagogical interests. Candidates will also be expected to support the college’s general education programs by teaching first-year writing-intensive classes or interdisciplinary courses linked to their research interests.  The candidate would also have the opportunity to contribute to our Study Abroad program, leading Hiram students on 3- to 12-week trips overseas.  One might also stage courses in our Master of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies or Weekend College programs.  The standard course load is 3 courses per semester.  New hires would be eligible for a pre-tenure 12-week sabbatical after three years of service at the college.  Interested applicants should submit their cover letter, curriculum vitae, three letters of recommendation, writing sample, and teaching materials electronically as a Word or PDF document(s) to HR@hiram.edu.  Review of applications will begin in late December and will continue until the position is filled. Hiram College is an Equal Opportunity Employer committed to Excellence through Diversity.  (www.hiram.edu)
