<Purpose and Objects of Grant>
Ukiyo-e developed independently of the existing Japanese art styles during the Edo period, and soon established itself as the art style of the ordinary people. it is widely known that its original way of expression, coloration and its high-level technique of woodcut had a significant influence on contemporary European painting. Ukiyo-e has been highly praised internationally, and studied both at home and abroad.
As the museum specializing in ukiyo-e, we have been offering grant for budding ukiyo-e researchers for many years and it counts the 31st times this year.
Anyone who is interested in ukiyo-e can apply for this grant.
<Procedure of application>

Please send the application form according to the standard format by registered mail together with your personal record, outline of your research theme (1000 words maximum), and particulars of necessary expenses of research. The standard format can be downloaded from our web site. Though the application form in English is acceptable, writing in Japanese is better in order to understand your reserch theme more accurately. The papers will not be returned.

4 Handling of Personal Data
The museum will use applicants’ personal data only for the purpose of the selection of grant recipient(s)..
As to the grant recipient(s), the information such as the name, the group name and the theme of the research will be published.
<Selection and presentation of grant>
1. Method of selection:
Candidates will be selected by the selection committee.
The recepient(s) will be decided upon by the director of the museum.
2. Announcement of result(s):
The winner(s) will be notified individually around February, 2015.
3. Presentation of grant:
The grant will be presented to one or two persons (one or two groups) in March 2015.
It is up to 1,000,000 yen in total.
<Obligation to submit treatise and publication>
The grant recipient(s) needs to submit the treatise of the research to the museum within one year after receiving the grant.
In principle, the treatise will be published in bulletin of the museum in priority to other publications.
