GRINNELL COLLEGE. One-year leave replacement position in Non-Western History with preferred specialization in any period of East Asian History, starting Fall 2013. Assistant Professor (Ph.D.) preferred; Instructor (ABD) possible. Grinnell College is a highly selective undergraduate liberal arts college. The College’s curriculum is founded on a strong advising system and close student-faculty interaction, with few college-wide requirements beyond the completion of a major. Within the College, the History Department plays a key role instructing both majors and non-majors in writing, evidence-based argumentation, textual analysis, and research. The teaching schedule of five courses over two semesters will include courses in the area of the candidates specialization and a research seminar in which students write historical essays based on primary source materials.
In letters of application, candidates should discuss their interest in developing as a teacher and scholar in an undergraduate, liberal-arts college that emphasizes close student-faculty interaction. They also should discuss what they can contribute to efforts to cultivate a wide diversity of people and perspectives, a core value of Grinnell College.
