Job Opening: Japanese Literature & Language, tenure-track appointment

The Department of Asian Languages and Cultures at Macalester College announces an opening for a tenure-track position in Japanese literature, rank open, beginning Fall, 2013. Applicants should have a Ph.D. at the time of application in the field of Japanese literature or related subjects, possess native or near-native proficiency in Japanese, and demonstrate ability and commitment to teach all levels of language. Scholarly promise, college teaching experience, an interdisciplinary approach to the teaching of Japanese culture, and knowledge of current pedagogical methodologies are desirable. The teaching responsibilities will involve both language and literature or culture courses.

We seek applicants who can contribute to the broader intellectual life of the College, which may include involvement in such activities as cross-listing courses with other departments, first year courses or faculty seminars. Successful applicants may also contribute to the advancement of one or more of the College’s interdisciplinary programs.
