Call for Papers: MLA 2013 Critical Theory in Premodern East Asian Literature

We are now inviting submissions for a panel to be convened at the 2013 MLA conference in Boston, Massachusetts January 3-6. The panel will examine readings of premodern East Asian texts for resonance with current topics of theoretical debate. Examples might include writings on the “mind” discussed in connection with cognitive theory, the notion of human rights vis-a-vis autochthonous categories such as rites, considerations of borderlands in terms of modern globalization theory, and so forth.

Send 500 word abstracts (or queries) to Charlotte Eubanks (cde13@psu.edu) by 1 March 2012 to be considered.

Panel sponsored by the Executive Committee on East Asian Languages to 1900.
