World Learning, a global non-profit organization, (www.worldlearning.org ) is responding to a State Department solicitation for the Fulbright Classroom Teacher Exchanges and the Distinguished Fulbright Awards in Teaching. World Learning is seeking to recruit a Senior Program Officer, Fulbright. Employment is contingent upon successful award of the program. Background:
This program will manage, on behalf of the State Department, two components of the Fulbright Teacher Exchange Program, for a total of 136 participants per year. Pending successful implementation, the program may be supported for a total of three years.
The Fulbright Program is the flagship international exchange program sponsored by the US Government, with the goal of increasing mutual understanding and promoting leadership development. The purpose of the Fulbright Teacher Exchange Program is to promote professional exchanges between teachers in the US and selected countries overseas, with the objective of supporting the internationalization of schools and classrooms, expanding global awareness, and improving knowledge of English and foreign languages. Fulbright Classroom Teacher Exchanges provide opportunities for US and foreign teachers to participate in direct exchanges of teaching positions for one semester to one year. Distinguished Fulbright Awards in Teaching recognize and encourage excellence in teaching in the US and abroad by providing opportunities for research and professional development activities.
Responsibilities of the Senior Program Officer, Fulbright:
- program planning and management
- adherence to the policies of the J. William Fulbright Scholarship Board, as well as all other Federal regulations
- selection and oversight of review committees across the US
- recruitment, placement, supervision, and support of participants
- orientation and preparation of participants and host/mentor educators
- coordination of workshops, professional development, and enrichment activities
- participant supervision and support services
- fiscal management and budgeting
- program reporting and evaluation (including ad hoc program and financial reports as requested by the Teacher Exchange Branch)
- alumni programming, support and follow-on activities
- preparation of schedules and timelines for notifying ECA, overseas partners, and participants of recruitment cycles
- placements, travel arrangements and cross-cultural and program information in a timely manner
- staff supervision
- liaison with US Department of State, Fulbright Commissions, US Embassies, the J. William Fulbright Scholarship Board, American schools/school systems; and other partners as appropriate
- host school support.
Required Qualifications:
- Master’s Degree plus three years of related work experience or a Bachelor’s Degree and five years of related work experience;
- Experience working with international education exchange programs, particularly at primary and secondary school level. Experience with Fulbright programs a plus
- Strong cross-cultural and communications skills
- Energetic and strong team player
- Excellent organizational ability
- International experience
- Computer proficiency, including Excel
- SEVIS and J-1 visa experience desirable
- Experience with US Department of State programs desirable.
