Bard College’s Division of Languages & Literature invites applications for a two-year fulltime Visiting Assistant Professor of Japanese, beginning in the fall of 2011. The successful applicant should hold a Ph.D. or be at the ABD stage of a Ph.D. program. Native or near-native proficiency in Japanese and English is required, with previous language-teaching experience strongly preferred. The area of specialization is flexible, but the candidate should have expertise in Japanese literature, cultural studies, and/or related fields. Applicant must be prepared to handle advising responsibilities, serve as an advisor for senior theses, and play a central role in both directing and administering the College’s thriving Japanese Program.
