The Department of East Asian Languages and Cultures at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign invites applications for a new full-time instructor/lecturer position in Japanese language with a target start date of August 16, 2011. The position is renewable each year and is contingent on funding and periodic strong performance reviews. Responsibilities include teaching three courses per semester (first year through advanced Japanese), curriculum and instructional materials development, student testing and orientation, close collaboration with language coordinators in programmatic service such as advising and supervising of graduate assistants and to advance Japanese language study and build a rigorous and cohesive Japanese language and culture program. We are seeking a highly skilled language teacher with native or near-native proficiency in Japanese and English; a degree in teaching Japanese as a foreign language, linguistics, second language acquisition, or related field: Ph.D. for a lecturer or M.A. for an instructor; and demonstrated success in teaching Japanese at the college/university level in the US. The salary will be commensurate with degree and experience.
